Asphalt Newcastle
Asphalt driveways, car parks and access roads placed over a compacted base, with the edges, falls and joins detailed so they hold up.
Asphalt remains one of the most cost-effective options for driveways, car parks and larger paved areas. Our asphalt Newcastle team lays asphalt for residential and commercial properties, with the focus on base preparation and long-term surface performance rather than on getting a truck emptied quickly.
We handle the sequence from site preparation and compaction through to laying, rolling and finishing, delivering a smooth surface that holds up to vehicle traffic and weather. New installations and resurfacing both fall within what we do.
New driveway, car park or access road, a properly laid asphalt surface offers reliable performance with modest ongoing maintenance. Where asphalt is not the right answer for your site, we will say so.
What We Surface
Our Newcastle Asphalt Services
Asphalt makes the most sense over larger areas, where it goes down quickly, costs less per square metre than concrete and gives you a continuous surface with no joints to detail. We lay new asphalt driveways, long rural and acreage access driveways out through the Hunter, car parks and hardstand for commercial properties, access roads and turning areas, and overlays across existing asphalt that has reached the end of its life.
Repair work is the other half of it. Potholes, edge breaks, cracking and depressions all worsen once water finds its way into the base, so patching and crack sealing early is considerably cheaper than resurfacing later. Where a surface has failed because the base underneath failed, we will say so, because an overlay on a soft base is money spent twice.
Below the surface it is the same sequence as any decent driveway: dig to depth, lay and compact road base, then place the asphalt at temperature and roll it while it is still hot enough to compact. Edges have to be contained or they crumble, and falls have to carry water off rather than let it pond. Base and compaction done properly, and asphalt will give you many good years.
Working With Us
Why Choose Our Asphalt Crews
Asphalt is unforgiving about timing. It has to be placed and rolled within a fairly narrow temperature window, and once it has cooled too far no amount of rolling will achieve proper compaction. That means planning the delivery, having enough hands on site and getting the sequence right before the truck arrives rather than working it out on the day.
We will also be upfront about how asphalt behaves here, because it is not the right answer everywhere. It softens through a run of hot humid Newcastle days, so it marks under a car left standing in the same spot, or under trailer and jockey wheels. It needs sealing periodically to stay in good condition. And on a steep driveway — of which this city has plenty — or a small residential area, concrete usually ends up the better long-term decision. If your job is one of those, we would rather tell you now.
When asphalt is the right choice, and over larger areas, long driveways and car parks it usually is, you get a base prepared properly, thickness matched to the traffic, compaction completed while the mix is still hot, contained edges and drainage that actually works. Tell us the area, what will be driving on it and what is there now, and we will price the base and the surface honestly.
