Kotara Concrete Driveways

Kotara is built mostly from post-war brick veneer homes on generous blocks, with the land rising and falling noticeably across the suburb and becoming genuinely steep through parts of Kotara South. That gradient changes the brief considerably: the transition at the garage, the crossover at the footpath and the fall across the frontage all need resolving before concrete is ordered, and a steep approach rules out finishes that get slippery once wet. Block size is the other defining factor, and it opens up more than a driveway. Pathways to the rear, patios off the living area, workshop slabs and a parking bay for a second vehicle, a boat or a caravan are all realistic, each with different thickness and drainage requirements. Original driveways from the 1950s and 1960s are widely at the end of their life here, cracked and settled beyond what repair sensibly addresses. Ground conditions include clay through parts of the suburb, which moves seasonally, so adequate thickness, base preparation and correctly spaced control joints matter more than the finish sitting on top of them.

Gradient, seasonal ground movement and heavier vehicle loads all change the specification, and experience is what tells you when standard thickness and mesh are enough and when they are not.
